aaaah! i can feel the tension in the truck as the japanese beast was turned and headed back for the missing passport :) the sense of being in another place, where the language is vastly different and the food doesn't quite reach the level hoped for is the fun of travel. a great piece john, i wish i wasn't so bloody serious in my blogging, but some things never change, hope all is well, R

It all sounds blissfull and exceedingly yummy.
I'm new to this lark - one year into my smallholding. My second crop of 3 Large Black pigs are ready for slaughter and I want to try curing some ham myself. I do hope you have a little bit of time to tell me your recipe/method of your air dried ham with any pointers to success.
Your bread oven also sounds triumph. I plan to have a go at a clay one this summer.
Many thanks.

Thanks to Philip for being a stickler on the anti-chemicals front. I'm tired of not being able to pronounce ingredients (and not because I don't have the right accent down pat).

So thrilled to find a new 'blog' this morning, and all about apples. I wish I could partake of some , they look delicious.
It is very difficult to buy freshly picked apples her in NZ unless at a farmers' market or a roadside stall. (not many of these nowadays)
You work very hard, but offer quality produce and deserve to do well.

There have been serious talks with Warner Bros. over the past couple of days, for NZ to retain the rights to make the Hobbit movie in NZ. The prime minister has had to offer a substantial amount of money to clinch the deal, but it is so economically important to our film industry.

All the best with your various enterprises. The days are getting warmer here.

As I traveled from NC to Michigan, my daughter and I passed a semi-tractor trailer FULL of baby piglets. They are so adorable when they're so tiny. I have a feeling though that they were not going to a place where people would adopt them as pets!

I love it, I can taste and smell the ham from here. Our locals try their best but they are simply not passionate enough about the food they grow. Congrats to you all, R

i am loving this Blog, am about to get my WordPress site up but i am more intrigued by the bread making. I love Gluten Free bread that we buy here in NZ, my partner is gluten intolerant and i am enjoying the shift as well. We have a new gas stove coming, we have a large pile of Fire Bricks that could a great start to a kiln, oops, I meant oven :) and, because my studio is at home, I can bake, yeeha! Any good links to any relevant sites?
